I Zombie FROM RealTime Gaming
If you have been paying any attention to the entertainment industry, you will know as well as we do that we have had a ton of zombies recently. Admittedly, it has started to die down a bit, but in a certain period, it felt like just about every movie, video game or show that was new or coming out had zombies in them in one form or another. So, what do you do when you want to pull off a fun zombie title, but the market is saturated as all hell? You go whacky and make it a kung-fu survival horror experience where a talented, young ninja and her aged, wise mentor must fight through crowds of zombie monks and jiangshi (hopping vampires). I, Zombie takes a different approach to the zombie theme and pulls it off masterfully while delivering a fun, if a bit by the books game with cloning Wilds and ever popular free spins which come with multipliers.
HOW TO PLAY
We are really pleased with how the graphics worked out. Despite not a lot going on, what you do see is gorgeous. The large, red lantern glows brighter and dimmer slightly, and you can see crows flying around the rickety old bridge, which leads to the entrance to the dojo itself. The mist, and everything else, is fixed in place, unable to go anywhere. We expected some more animations from the symbols themselves, but those were somewhat disappointing. We like the light blue glow that flies through the winning combinations to highlight what your wins were, but none of the symbols really perform any movement of their own. The whole icon just bounces in place, with the exception being Wild which will jump from its position into others if its bonus function goes through. The user interface for I, Zombie is the older RTG one, with slight colour variations to make it fit with the rest of the game.
The title is played on a 5×3 playing field with 25 flexible paylines, which award pays just left to right. Gamblers can turn some of the paylines on or off at will, which means they can lower their bet past the limit set by the developers at the price of decreasing their chances of winning. The game has medium volatility, mixing small, frequent wins with larger, but rare jackpots.

BETTING OPTIONS AND PAYOUTS
Gamblers can bet between $0.01 up to $62.5 per spin by increasing or decreasing their line bet and the amount of active paylines. The ability to shut down certain paylines will no doubt please more casual players who do not have a lot of money to spend, while high rollers will be satisfied with the maximum bet. For the rest of us in between, the wide choice of wagers means you will be able to find a bet level you are comfortable playing with. There is no information available for this RTG release, which makes us wary of recommending it to anyone.
SYMBOLS AND EXTRA FEATURES
Symbols include playing card icons 9, 10, J, Q, K and A, which suffered some damage and are slightly zombified. Alongside them there is a golden bell, a shambling zombie monk, a trained gorgeous ninja girl, her wise, old mentor, the mirror icon as the Scatter and a hot female jiangshi as the Wild symbol.
When Scatter or Wild symbols appear anywhere on the playing field, they have a chance of creating two more Wilds, which will occupy the other two positions on that reel.
Collecting three or more Mirror Scatters rewards free spins. The amount of free spins you get is determined by the amount of Scatters and Wilds on the playing field during the triggering spin – you get +2 free spins for each one. During free spins, Scatter and Wild symbols will always create two more Wilds. If you activate free spins with four or five Scatters, all wins will be doubled or tripled. Collecting three or more Scatters while free spins are already active will add more free spins to the current count.
OUR VERDICT
While we would not call I, Zombie anything mind-blowing, it was really well done. The theme of a pair of ninjas fighting a temple full of zombie monks is on the level of a campy movie, and the gameplay was surprisingly fun.
