Online gambling has spiralled since its inception at the end of the last century, and ever since then it has gone from strength to strength with literally millions of people playing poker, slots and their favourite casino games on a daily basis. One man though is trying to put an end to all online gambling activities and that man is Sheldon Adelson.
Mr Adelson made it clear at the weekend he intends to put an end to all online gambling activities, and he is prepared to do so no matter how much it costs. He said, “My moral standard compels me to speak out on this issue because I am the largest company by far in the industry and I am willing to speak out. I don't see any compelling reason for the government to allow people to gamble on the Internet and nobody has ever explained except for the two companies whose special interest is going to be served if there is gaming on the Internet, Caesars and MGM. I am willing to spend whatever it takes.”
Very interesting comments made by Mr Sheldon Adelson, who if you didn't know is the Chief Executive Officer of The Las Vegas Sands Corporation, which if you didn't know is an America Resort and Casino complex in Nevada. Mr Adelson is also currently the 11th richest man in the whole of the United States with an estimated fortune of around $34 billion. Hypocritical maybe?
Many people will agree with the comments made by Mr Adelson as online gaming can cause people to have uncontrollable amounts of debt, but many will no doubt disagree as well, especially those you have celebrated huge wins in the past. With online gaming now slowly being introduced in to the American states of Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey it appears as though it is here for the foreseeable future no matter how much money Mr Adelson is prepared to throw at his cause to put an end to it.
