In April of this year the first legal hands of poker were dealt in Nevada and since then Ultimate Poker has gone from strength to strength, and it is hoped that more states will soon be offering legal poker and legal internet gambling sooner rather than later. One state is New Jersey who look set to announce that legal poker, legal internet gambling and legal gaming will be allowed as soon as November of this year.
Paddy Power the Irish Bookmakers and gaming company have today confirmed that they have applied for a licence to trade in New Jersey, though as yet they have yet to confirm what their level of involvement will be. A statement from Paddy Power has been released and it was read out by David Power the Communications Director. He said, “We want to make sure that we're in place and ready. We have applied for the licence to be in there, and we'll then see what is viable. We're putting ourselves in position. The company has a small team on the ground with Eamonn Toland as president of gambling and casinos in North America with a brief to identify opportunities there.”
Paddy Power were initially awarded their licence last year, but because of the legal complications they decided to keep their powder dry, until now that is. It will be interesting to see how they move forward from here, now they have announced their intentions to trade in New Jersey.
