Last week we brought you the news that betting exchange specialists Betfair bought out Blue Square Bet in a deal that was reported to be in the region of £5 million. Betfair who also have their own online casino have wasted little time in streaming lining their operations and have already announced an end to two major deals set up by Blue Square Bet.
The first deal to come to an end is that of Blue Squares sponsorship of the Football Conference, a deal that has been running for six consecutive seasons now. A statement released by Betfair over the weekend read, “Blue Square Bet will continue to sponsor the Football Conference under the existing titles until the end of the current season. We are then reviewing what to do after that”.
In addition to that statement The Football conference also released a statement, a statement that was read by Football Conference Chairman Brian Lee. It read, “Blue Square Bet has been a tremendous partner for six long seasons and we knew that it was likely to end its contract with us at the end of this current one. It has honoured each and every clause of the agreement and we would like to believe that we have responded likewise. It would be remiss of me not to express our grateful thanks to its entire staff that have over the years contributed to the success of the partnership.”
Blue Square Bingo has also bitten the dust in the wake of the buy-out last week, though all Blue Square customers will be able to access their accounts at Betfair, where their balances, loyalty status, bonuses and free bets will still be available.
Betfair continues to grow and grow and only last year reported revenues of £389.7 million across its platforms for the year ending 2012. With the acquisition of Blue Square Bet those figures are going to grow even more as players can play various casino games, arcade games, poker and bingo. Also they can bet on the betting exchanges for which they became famous, as well as taking advantage of their vastly improving sports betting site too.
