We have to be honest, we don’t usually go that often for 3-reel slots. It’s nothing personal, but we just feel that they don’t usually pack enough excitement and fun to make them worthwhile to play. So when something like Sea Hunter comes along to break that up, we immediately fall in love and want more. The core of it all is quite simple. It offers gamblers a 3×3 playing field with 5 fixed paylines, and sets you loose to wreak havoc on the local wild life. Because beyond the fish that you will find on the reels, there is also a powerful cannon sitting by the side of the reels. The more fish you catch, the more abilities it gains, so chaining wins can quickly cascade from a simple win to giving you better symbols, extra re-spins, adding Wilds on the playing field and slapping on a powerful multiplier that can go as high as 15x stake.

The animations in this game are absolutely top-notch, despite not having many. The main focus has gone into the cannon, which moves up and down the reel as it does its job, and it is beautifully animated, as well as all the accompanying effects that follow it. Add on top of that a gorgeous backdrop with fish swimming in the distance, as well as a pretty and completely unique array of symbols, and you have yourself a beautiful slot with an awesome sound design backing it, even if the naval alarm goes from great to annoying super quickly for our tastes.

But that just means you see plenty of it. It won’t always bring exactly what you want, but if the wins start chaining one after the other, it can very quickly get really good really fast. While we’d mark it as high volatility, it certainly has options for just about anyone to enjoy it. It has a relatively small barrier to entry, and waiting for that sudden rush means you can either win a little, or a lot, all in the span of five-six spins and what you get during them. It doesn’t really have things like free spins, but at no point did they feel needed to liven up the gameplay. It was explosive, fun and profitable all on its own.

With only 5 paylines, it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to allow gamblers to turn off extras, as you will need all 5 to be getting the wins you need to keep chain triggering the cannon. We don’t know if we just have really good luck with it, but we’ve always stumbled into a really explosive win when we play Sea Hunter, so Play’n GO must be doing something right!

We like the symbols. They’re entirely unique, and built around the natural wildlife you would find out at sea. Tortoises, jellyfish, octopods, whales, they’re all animals peacefully swimming through the ocean – until they run into a underwater mine Wild or the cannon starts acting up.

To activate the various bonuses the cannon has, you need to have several consecutive wins. Two will improve a symbol on the reels and change it into another, more valuable one, four will sticky all Wilds and a single other symbol and give you a free re-spin, five consecutive wins will reward you with one to three Wilds randomly appearing on the reels, and six wins rewards you with one guaranteed winning spin with a multiplier that can go up to 15x.
