Every so often there comes a game that takes what we expect from slots, and throws it out into the trash in entirety to try something brand new. Mega Money Rush is exactly that kind of game. Despite the title filled with buzzwords, this is something entirely new to the online gaming world, doing away with reels and paylines in favour of spinning a wheel and your own skills on the racing track. Strap into your car, cause we’re going on a road trip!

This game is a hybrid between a slot and running games that are popular on mobile devices. To start off, you need to pick your stage. Once you do, the game takes you to a wheel, which you spin by pressing the large Spin button. The outer wheel spins first, in which you can gain XP, one of the three power-ups, a no-race or a race. If you win a race, then the inner wheel spins, selecting how much treasure chests will appear or if you win a bonus round. Once on the track, you use the keyboard to move left and right, avoid obstacles, and pick up coins and treasure chests.

If you have previously won any power-ups, which include the magnet, the coin vacuum, and the shield, you can also pick them up. You gain money by picking up coins and treasure chests, and lose them by running into obstacles. The better you are at the game, the more money you bring in. The XP you gain is used to unlock new tracks and vehicles. So, you start with a car, then you move up onto a boat, then a plane, and so on. Each new track is more difficult than the one before it, offering a skill progression.

While you can bet as much as little as $0.50 and as much as $100 per wheel spin, the highest payouts of the game are actually locked behind the XP system. While this isn’t an issue at first, if you’re a high roller that wants big wins and wants them now, you’ll have to grind the XP to get to higher levels, which offer bigger multipliers, and that can be a pain if you can’t manage to hit that XP button on the wheel.

The game’s symbols are all gamey-themed, which fits into the look of the slot as an old 8bit racing game. On the outer wheel, your icons are the two-finish flags for the race icon, magnet, shield and a stylised coin for the power-ups, a blue star for the XP gain, and a pit-stop girl for the surprise. The inner wheel has several chests full of treasure, which all look the same. As far as extra features go, the game offers two. The Surprise icon can award either a money prize with x1 or x2 of your bet level, power-up bundles or XP.

Additionally, if you land on the bonus race symbol on the inner wheel, you’re allowed to pick one of the 5 cars and get a flat cash bonus on top of what you’ll win on the track. The game also has a mobile version, but we would not recommend it. Even on higher-end phones, there was considerable slowdown present. Other than that, nothing except the controls is changed, as you tap and swipe instead of pressing keys.
