Battle Royal Slots
As the saying goes, it is good to be the King. Nobody would know that better than King Henry the 8th, a man who broke ties with the Catholic Church just so he could freely divorce one wife and marry another. The English King had gone through six wives during his lifetime, in an effort to sire a son. Now, these six ladies struggle to see which one will escape with her head in Battle Royal. The slot is played on a 5x3 playing field with 20 fixed paylines. The games bonuses include free spins with added Wilds, a point and click bonus and symbol transformations.
How to PlayWe really like this title’s graphics. The human form of the six queens feel a touch dull at times, but their ghostly forms are a feast for the eyes, with all sorts of cool effects. The animations look nice, but all the effort clearly went into animating the bonuses rather than the actual symbols. The user interface is the same one used in all other Play’n Go releases. Battle Royal is played on a standard 5x3 playing field, with pays that are granted by connecting three or more identical symbols from left to right, following one of 20 fixed paylines. The slot has a decent variety of bonuses, with one occurring randomly, and the others being triggered through the use of Scatters.
Betting Options and PayoutPlayers can wager between $0.20 up to $100 per spin, which is a decent betting spread for both casual gamblers and high rollers. The game has high volatility, and an RTP of 96%, and that is average compared to other titles released by Play’n Go. The maximum win is worth 5,000x your total bet.
Symbols and Extra FeaturesSymbols include clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades and Henry’s six wives. King Henry is Wild and can substitute for all icons except for Scatters. The English crest on a shield is Scatter and it only appears on the first and fifth reel. At the end of every spin, the slot may randomly choose to convert all card suit symbols into the same icon. This increases your odds of landing a winning combination but does not guarantee it. Collecting Scatters on the first and fifth reel at the same time allows you access to the other two bonuses. The first are the free spins. Before they begin, you select one of the Queens who you think is going to survive. During extra turns, if a Queen is fully stacked or the upper part of her symbol is visible when a guillotine falls, that icon is beheaded and turns Wild. Free spins continue until only one Queen remains. If your chosen wife survives, you get a cash prize. Long Live the King can be triggered if your chosen Queen loses, or you draw it from the Scatter choice. You select chests for King Henry to open while crossing your fingers a vengeful wife’s ghost does not kill you. If you open a chest with the key, you can leave the dungeon and get a multiplier, or you can be greedy and keep unlocking chests. If you triggered this bonus from the free spins, the multiplier applies to your total win from that special feature, too.
Our VerdictWhile the graphics were somewhat mixed, the idea and execution were masterful. The mechanics work well with the theme, and the gameplay is super fun. If you enjoy high variance games, this is a must play, in our opinion.
