Temple of Tut Slots

There aren’t many civilisations that have had such a huge impact on the world and remained such a great mystery. Most societies that have left an impact persisted in one shape or another, but for all the impact the ancient Egyptians brought with them, their religion, beliefs and culture were buried beneath the sands after Islamic conquests over the region, leaving the knowledge we know of ancient Egypt from Old Greek texts and archaeological findings. The allure of this dead civilisation has been documented through movies, games, and even slots. The Microgaming’s take on it is Temple of Tut which offers gamblers a 5x3 playing field with 10 fixed paylines. There are two features available to gamblers looking to score. Super Reels, which activate randomly and allow Wilds to appear on the reels, and free spins, which require three or more Scatters to appear at the same time, with 5 Scatters rewarding the maximum amount of extra turns.

How to Play

The graphics take a simple and laid back look, focusing on fidelity over any mind-blowing visual effects that might strain your device. You have some Egyptian icons scattered about, as well as the three man research team delving into Tut’s temple to uncover its secrets. The backdrop is simply a multi-coloured brick framework, with the reels playing across an opened scroll, which is a nice touch in terms of graphics. The user interface has big, bulky buttons on the side of the screen, making it easy to use on both mobile and desktop. As for gameplay, there’s not a lot of complexity when it comes to Temple of Tut. It has 10 fixed paylines, which is a lot less than standard 25, but to make up for it, the Microgaming release allows wins to be paid both left and right and right to left, effectively doubling your odds of winning. The random nature of Super Reels seems interesting at first, but their sole purpose is to allow Wilds to populate the reel, they don’t guarantee it happening. It essentially makes Wilds rarer, but to the slot’s credit, that never feels like a problem while playing.

Betting Options and Payout

You can wager between $0.10 up to $250, allowing both the humble peasants and the mighty pharaohs to wager to their liking and decide how they want to tackle winning Tut’s treasure. There’s not a lot of tactics you can employ to boost your wins, in all honesty. Super Reels are important, but the real star of the show is usually the free spins bonus. You don’t have to pay anything during said turns, and while the feature is up, all Super Reels are activated, making it even more valuable.

Symbols and Extra Features

The icons are very Egypt focused, save for the three adventurers. Wild is the sarcophagus of the buried pharaoh, Scatters carry the game’s logo on them, and laying about the reels you find ankhs, eyes of Horus and various figures of the old Egyptian deities. There aren’t a lot of icons, with Temple of Tut offering only ten paylines, but the ones that are there are drawn very well. Winning three or more Scatters will reward between 8 to 30 free spins. Winning two or more Scatters when the feature is active will reward additional extra turns to the player. While free spins are triggered, all five Super Reels are active.

Our Verdict

It doesn’t break any new ground, but it’s an enjoyable, medium variance offering from Microgaming. If you like the theme of ancient Egypt, or if you’re looking for something new to sink your teeth into, Temple of Tut will be a pleasant gameplay experience.
