Live baccarat has seen countless variations over the years, but not many live games feel as culturally distinct as Seotda Baccarat. Instead of simply adding a Korean-native table or speeding up gameplay, Pragmatic Play created a game around Korea’s traditional Hwatu cards and Seotda-inspired mechanics. As a result, Seotda Baccarat is a familiar baccarat game clad in a very different visual and character.

Some of the changes brought into the game include an elimination of the third-card rule and a new card deck (Hwatu deck with 20 cards). This makes the game quite faster (rounds complete faster than usual) and the focus is always on the two cards deciding the fate between Player and Banker. The deck brings novelty and uniqueness to the game. Plus, you also have two extra Bright card side bets to wager on if classic gameplay seems too dull.

RTP is 98.82%, while bets range from $0.20 to $5,000 per round, making it a fantastic suit for all different player profiles – from casual to high rollers.

Seotda Baccarat follows the core baccarat principle: players bet on either the Player or Banker hand, predicting which side will receive the higher-scoring hand. A Tie bet is also available.

The key mechanical difference from traditional baccarat is the card system. Instead of an 8-deck shoe of standard playing cards, the game uses a 20-card Hwatu deck. This deck contains two sets of cards numbered 1 through 10, with each number representing a month from January to October. The deck has unique artwork inspired by traditional Korean Hwatu designs.

Each round, both the Player and Banker receive exactly two cards. There is no third-card rule. This is one of the most significant changes from standard baccarat, as every hand depends on two cards only. Hence, all rounds are faster and there’s no need to have complex draw rules that are often too confusing to newer baccarat players.

Cards are shuffled every round during the betting timeframe, keeping the game completely fresh each hand and removing any card-counting considerations.

When it comes to determining the hand outcome, there’s a ranking system rather than simple point totals. While point counting still exists as the lowest tier of hand rankings (similar to traditional baccarat, where totals of 10 or more drop the first digit), the game layers Bright Pairs, standard Pairs, and Special Combinations above that tier, all of which outrank point-based hands.

Theme & Design

Seotda Baccarat leans into its Korean heritage. The 20-card Hwatu deck is the visual centerpiece, as each card carries traditional artwork rather than the standard suits and faces players are used to seeing at baccarat tables. Three cards within the deck are designated as exclusive Bright Cards, marked with the ‘光’ character (meaning “bright” or “light” in Korean), signaling their elevated status in the hand-ranking hierarchy.

The game operates from Pragmatic Play’s studio in Romania and is presented with a Korean-speaking dealer, reinforcing the cultural identity of the game. The interface runs on HTML5 and is available 24/7.

At 120 rounds per hour with a 12-second betting window, the pace is noticeably faster than most standard live baccarat tables, which typically run around 60–80 rounds per hour.

The table accepts bets from €0.2 up to €5,000, giving the game a range that accommodates both low-stakes casual players and more serious baccarat players.

The primary bet types are Player, Banker, and Tie, which is the same as in standard baccarat. Both the Player and Banker main bets carry an RTP of 98.82%, while the Tie bet sits at 97.38% RTP.

Side Bets

The game offers four side bets too.

Player Pair / Banker Pair — These bets pay when the respective side is dealt a pair. Both carry an RTP of 97.37%. Given the smaller 20-card deck, pairs appear with different frequency than they would in a standard 8-deck baccarat shoe, which changes the feel of these wagers compared to traditional pair side bets.

Player Bright / Banker Bright — These are the game’s signature side bets. They pay when the respective side is dealt one of the exclusive Bright Card combinations. With a maximum payout of 80:1, these represent the highest single-round win potential in the game. Both carry an RTP of 96.32%.

The hand-ranking system is where Seotda Baccarat diverges most significantly from traditional baccarat. Instead of simply comparing point totals, hands are evaluated across a 29-rank hierarchy. The higher the rank, the stronger the hand.

Bright Pairs (Rank #1 – #3)

The three strongest hands in the game are Bright Pairs, which are combinations of the exclusive Bright Cards marked with ‘光’. These are:

• Rank #1: 3/8 (The strongest possible hand, it’s unbeatable)
• Rank #2: 1/8
• Rank #3: 1/3

Only three Bright Cards exist within the deck, so these hands are rare. When they appear, they override all other hand types.

Pairs (Rank #4 – #13)

Matched pairs rank below Bright Pairs but above all other hand types. Pairs rank from highest to lowest as 10/10 down to 1/1. Since the deck contains two copies of each card (1–10), pairs are possible every round but not guaranteed.

Special Combinations (Rank #14 – #19)

Six specific two-card combinations hold special status, ranking above point-based hands but below pairs:

• 1/2 (highest Special Combination)
• 1/4
• 1/9
• 1/10
• 4/10
• 4/6 (lowest Special Combination)

These are strategic in the sense that certain card combinations that might look unremarkable at first glance actually outrank a perfect 9-point hand.

Points Total (Rank #20 – #29)

The lowest tier works the same as in traditional baccarat point counting. The two card values are summed, and if the total reaches 10 or more, the first digit is dropped. A hand totaling 9 is the strongest within this tier, down to 0 as the weakest.

Extra Combinations: Hunters

Two special “Hunter” combinations add an additional twist:

• Bright Pair Hunter (4/7, specifically the “cuckoo 4” and “boar 7”): This hand beats the 1/8 and 1/3 Bright Pairs, though it does not beat the top-ranked 3/8.
• Pair Hunter (any 3/7 combination): This hand defeats all Pairs ranked 1 through 9.

RTP & VOLATILITY

Seotda Baccarat’s main bet RTP of 98.82% for both Player and Banker positions the game competitively within the live baccarat category. For context, standard baccarat Banker bets typically carry an RTP around 98.94% and Player bets around 98.76%, so Seotda Baccarat’s symmetrical 98.82% on both sides is a notable design choice that simplifies the decision for players.

The Tie bet at 97.38% is significantly better than the Tie RTP found at most traditional baccarat tables, where it often sits below 86%.

Side bet RTPs range from 96.32% (Player/Banker Bright) to 97.37% (Player/Banker Pair). These are reasonable figures for live casino side bets.

Volatility-wise, it’s a more tumultuous game than it might look like at first.

Our Experience

Seotda Baccarat feels like a genuine departure from the standard live baccarat formula rather than a cosmetic makeover. So far, we’ve gotten used to seeing tables that are simply decorated in some specific design and then called a novelty, but this is not that. Seotda Baccarat actually delivers on the change that is promised with the strong focus on Korean culture.

Another big difference that we noticed right away is the speed. At 120 rounds per hour with only two cards dealt per side and no third-card rule, each round resolves quickly. The 12-second betting window is more than enough for decision time, and yet it does not take away from the pace of the round.

The thing that you might take the longest to get used is the  hand-ranking system, but once you get the hang of it, it’s going to be breezy.

For us, the Hunter mechanics were the most complex element, but they appear so rarely that they feel like exciting surprises rather than something to be confused about.

The Bright side bets are where the game delivers its most distinctive moments. Watching for the ‘光’ symbol on dealt cards creates a tension that doesn’t exist in standard baccarat, and the 80:1 maximum payout gives those side bets genuine weight when they hit.

The Korean-language dealing is yet another authentic symbol, which we love for Korean players. Still, English-speaking-only players might consider this a language barrier.
