Hear the beat of the far-away drums, the sounds of a temple hidden away from the eyes of modern humans. Deep within the jungle, hidden beneath the thick canopy and towering trees, it has rested, undisturbed, for centuries, protected by the local tribes from those who would open it and plunder its riches. Secret Jungle clearly takes inspiration from the famed legend of El Dorado. Yet, instead of chasing after a city made of gold, the hunt is on for a much humbler prize – a temple, untapped by the ages and foreign hands – the wealth of knowledge within alone is worth plenty, let alone all the riches left behind by the locals. So do you have the guts to brave the thick jungles, to fight or negotiate with the locals and to ascend the tall temple, reach the top and claim the prize? Then welcome to the RTG’s 2018 release.

This is one of RTG’s more visually attractive titles. Secret Jungle is set in the thick jungle. The backdrop itself is mostly static. It’s an image of a large, stone structure that’s been overgrown by vines and various other plants, no doubt as time went on and the temple was not accessed. But you can still see the intricate pattern on the door and the imposing size of the structure. There’s an occasional animation sprinkled in. A blue butterfly will fly about from time to time and you can see some fireflies buzzing about to the sides of the reels making the whole thing seem more alive. The user interface is rather handy, cleanly marked and allowing for easy navigation through the options, paytable and the reels.

The game is played on a 5×3 playing field with 50 flexible paylines, which allows gamblers to turn them on or off at will. This is a high volatility game, meaning players will go through long stretches without any sizeable wins before a large windfall of wins, whether that is one massive jackpot or several chained wins in a row bring forward their winning streak. That said, players have to last long enough to reach those wins, so betting appropriately to your budget is well advised.

You can bet between $0.01 up to $12.50, by adjusting your bet level and the number of active paylines. The large variety of bets on the lower spectrum will undoubtedly please more casual gamblers, but this is a more high variance title. We expected RTG to permit some bigger bets, so a cap at $12.50 seems a bit restrictive, especially as it can limit the prizes you can hope to win. Another thing we disliked is the fact RTG hasn’t given any information related to Secret Jungle’s RTP, something which we consider a major red flag and something gamblers need to be aware of.

The offered symbols are a mixture of playing card icons like 9, 10, J, Q, K and A, painted in a style to make them seem as if they’ve been drawn on top of stone blocks, as well as symbols with unique artwork like a pot, a pile of golden coins, a jaguar, a tribesman warrior, and a gorgeous tribeswoman priestess. A golden idol serves as the title’s Wild, while an Aztec pyramid is the game’s Scatter.

All wins that have their prizes tripled when Idol Wild is part of a winning combination. Wilds are also the highest paying icons in Secret Jungle.
Collecting three, four or five Scatters rewards 8, 18 or 88 free spins. During free spins, players start with a 1x multiplier or a 2x multiplier if you activate the bonus with four or five Scatters. Once the feature is triggered, you can reactivate it by collecting three more Scatters, which increases the multiplier by 1 and rewards more free spins. It’s possible to push up the multiplier up to 9x or 10x, as you’re capped at eight retriggers.
