Respin Rhino Slots

The African savannah is a place that’s usually not given a lot of attention. It hosts a large number of animals most people will usually only see on television, as they simply do not live anywhere else. Nowhere in the world can you find an area that’s so wide open and filled with tall grass, where life adapted for speed instead of stealth that’s usually afforded by forested areas. Savannah survivors are either too big to take down safely, too small to be noticed in the bushes, or use the rare trees to their advantage to get out of reach of those speedy predators. But chief among all these animals is the rhino, the undisputed proof that even vegetarians can be a huge, muscle-bound ball of death if they really want to. Respin Rhino offers a 5x4 playing field with 40 fixed paylines. The title benefits from different special features to lure you in and keep you playing. The first is the Expanding Wild feature, which does exactly what it says on the tin, and the second is Rhino Respins, which gives the Microgaming release its name.

How to Play

We’re quite fond of the design here, even if the user interface doesn’t quite follow the same Microgaming standard. That’s because this is a title given to Lightning Box to develop and published under the Microgaming name for recognition. Graphics themselves aren’t on the same level as in-house titles, but they still look quite good. The backdrop of a setting sun across the wide open field is gorgeous, and it’s quite clear there’s been a lot of effort to make the animations as smooth as they are. As for gameplay, you can expect a fair amount of feature reliance to carry everything forward. Despite the presence of Wild and its ability to expand, it only appears on the second and fourth reel, which isn’t always enough to push things forward by itself. Respin Rhino also boldly does away with free spins, settling for its respins and a few small catches that let you extend them as a replacement instead. The medium-high volatility the title offers will no doubt attract some suitors hoping for some good scores, but you’ll have to grind a bit to get there.

Betting Options and Payout

You can play Respin Rhino for $0.40 up to $200 per spin due to the fixed 40 paylines. Such a range should cover the expenses of everyone but the most careful penny-pinchers and if $0.40 per spin is a bit too much for your budget, perhaps gambling by itself is a bad idea. Among the solid wins you can take home, the clear and obvious goal is to shoot for the Rhino Respins feature which can earn you some really solid wins. Playing at the maximum bet, your largest jackpot for a single spin is $840,000, which is 4,200x your wager! The title also has an RTP of 95.62%, which means for every $100 you spend, you get back $95.62, so you better hope luck is on your side.

Symbols and Extra Features

There’s clearly love and effort put into making the animal icons look good here. The elephant, the bird, the monkey, the white tiger and the rhino all have an attractive design, and some pretty cool animations to go along with them. Our favourite without a doubt being the little spin the monkey does when he’s part of a winning combination. You also have playing card icons – 9, 10, J, Q, K and A, though Lightning Box hasn’t done anything to make them look interesting. The feature on offer is called Rhino Respins. When you have the same 8 symbols fill both the first and fifth reel, these icons will transform into rhinos and reward three respins. Any appearance of Wild will add 3 more respins on top of that and since Wilds can only appear on the second and fourth reel, this means the maximum amount of respins you can win are 9 in total. During the feature, every expanded Wild and the two Rhino reels are sticky.

Our Verdict

We quite liked Respin Rhino. The gameplay can be somewhat boring at times and we’re not big fans of the playing card symbols, but the prospect of winning 4,200x our wager in a single spin was more than enough to persuade us. We’ve received some cool animations and an interesting, if a bit dry special feature on top of that.
