Jungle Jim is a name that many gamblers fondly remember. After all, it was Microgaming’s answer to the iconic Gonzo’s Quest slot. It didn’t make a huge splash, but fans of the original remained loyal to the dashing hero. And it seems Jim has finally graduated from the jungle, and is now exploring the sands of Egypt in Microgaming’s latest adventure!
Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx is played on a 5×4 board with 35 fixed paylines. During one of the available special features, the playing field can increase to a 5×5 board, with 50 fixed paylines instead. Bonuses include the Rolling Reels special feature, progressive multipliers, free spins, a Second Chance re-spin, and a Win Booster.

Honestly, we were expecting a bigger visual upgrade from the original game which came out in 2016. But the only thing that really wowed us was the inclusion of dynamic lighting when the Win Booster is active. Jungle Jim is no longer present on the side of the reels, reacting to your wins. Instead, he’s been relegated to just being just another symbol on the board.

This release is played on a five reel board, where each reel is four icons tall. It has a total of 35 paylines. To win, players must collect three or more identical symbols in adjacent positions, starting with the leftmost reel. All wins must follow one of the currently active paylines, or else the cash prize won’t be awarded to the gambler.

Players can wager between $0.10 and $80 on each spin, depending on your coin size and coins per payline. Your stake will also increase or decrease depending on if the Win Booster is active or not.You adjust your coin size and coins per payline using sliders, making it super simple to use.

The slot has high volatility, and an RTP ranging between 96.10% and 96.30%. In both cases, the RTP is higher than the current industry average. The largest jackpot you can win is worth 6,250x your total bet.

We weren’t particularly impressed with symbol designs. They aren’t bad, but they failed to attract our attention. It doesn’t help that the icons are small to make room for an expanding playing field.

After each win, Rolling Reels come into effect, removing winning icons and allowing new ones to fall in their place. Gamblers who can successfully chain multiple wins will see the multiplier increase with each consecutive win. It caps after the 5th win, reaching a 10x multiplier.

The third consecutive win will temporarily increase the size of the playing field to a 5×5 board with 50 fixed paylines.

Collect three or more Scatters to win 12 free spins. During free turns, the board will immediately be in its expanded state. The multipliers you receive from chained wins are also increased, reaching a 20x maximum after 5 consecutive wins.
