Gates of Olympus Roulette

Gates of Olympus Roulette is a live roulette game show that’s a blend of live European roulette and Pragmatic Play’s Gates of Olympus slots. The slot is famous for its innovative and potent game features, and so the provider found a way to insert them into the live roulette game to add a little bit of pizzazz.

The idea is not revolutionary, Playtech did it already with Age of the Gods Bonus Roulette, which coincidentally happens to be modelled after another Greek-themed slot. Still, it’s not a copy-paste situation, but more of a borrowed idea that worked great for Playtech. And given the promo and buzz the game is creating, Pragmatic Play is banking on it too, and it’s probably going to be a very popular live dealer product for the studio.

While the core gameplay follows familiar roulette rules, the addition of Lucky Numbers, bonus triggers, and massive multipliers transforms each spin into something far more dynamic. The highlight of the game is the special bonus round that boosts payouts from already-high 2,500x to 10,000x on Straight numbers. But that addition comes with a few warnings and stipulations.

Gates of Olympus Roulette is, for all intents and purposes, a live roulette table. That means that it uses the classic European roulette layout with a single zero wheel. In the base game, at least. The bonus game is a slot bonus feature, but more on that later.

1. Phase 1: Placing bets

The round starts with the betting phase. You are given 17 seconds to decide on the betting positions for the roulette layout. You first select the bets on the table, which includes inside bets such as straight-up numbers, splits, streets, and corners, as well as outside bets like red/black, even/odd, dozens, and columns. In other words, the standard roulette wagers.

2. Phase 2: Wheel spin

Once the betting window closes, the host will spin the wheel. While the wheel spins, the game will randomly select one of the numbers as a Bonus Number and up to 7 Lucky Numbers. The Bonus Number unlocks the Bonus round, while Lucky Numbers carry Multipliers.

These special numbers are displayed prominently on the interface so you  know what you might win if the ball lands in their designated pockets on the wheel.

3. Phase 3: The end of the spin

If the ball lands on one of the Lucky Numbers that you placed a qualifying bet on, any Multiplier that was attached to said Lucky Number will apply. If the ball lands on a Bonus Number, anyone who placed a straight-up wager on that number will proceed to the bonus round.

4. Phase 4: Payouts or proceeding to the bonus round

This part is optional. In most cases, there’s no entry to the Bonus round, but rather just simple payouts for the winners. But if the ball has landed on the Bonus Number, the game will unlock the Gates of Olympus slot bonus round.

The bonus round starts with a number of spins and Multipliers. The goal is to land the biggest Multiplier possible (it’s progressive) before you run out of spins. The dealer must pull the lever to enter the Bonus game.

Gates of Olympus Roulette offers the full range of classic roulette bets. That means that there’s a standard list, but the payouts are slightly elevated for the Straight up bets.

Please note that the standard payout for Straight up bets is 20:1 instead of 35:1 that you’d find in other classic roulette games. However, the fact that you can win up to 10,000x compensates for the fact that you are getting a slightly lower base game payout.

Bet limits in the game range from €0.10 to €10,000, which means the table is going to appeal to both casual players and high rollers. Still, considering the payout is 10,000x and variance is high means that casual players are very likely only to try the game, but not keep returning to it as high rollers might do.

The Return to Player (RTP) is listed at 97.30% for both straight-up bets and all other wagers, which is pretty unexpected as it’s a very intense and fast-paced live game show with a lot of potential.

Straight-up bets in the base game can reach 2,500x, but in the bonus round the maximum is 10,000x.

Lucky Numbers

In each round of the game, up to seven Lucky Numbers are randomly generated. In other words, up to seven numbers (straight up) are randomly selected as lucky and they get to carry a Multiplier. From what we’ve seen, Multipliers can go up to 250x for Lucky Numbers. If the ball lands on one of these numbers and the player has placed a bet on them, the multipliers or enhanced payouts apply to the total payout.

Bonus Number

Besides Lucky Numbers, a separate Bonus Number is also randomly selected during the same phase of the round (while the wheel is spinning).  If the ball lands on this number and a player has placed a straight-up bet on it, they trigger the bonus game. Everyone who placed a wager on that number goes to the Bonus round, and those that did not, can only observe the rest of the round as it plays out before they are allowed to re-join in the new round.

Gates of Olympus Bonus Round

This is the game’s main feature. When it’s activated, the bonus round starts. It takes inspiration from the slot mechanics of Gates of Olympus, obviously. It’s a game of Multipliers, so you start with a number of spins (determined by the game) and try to land matching icons on the grid while the Multipliers grow. The Multiplier is progressive, so it keeps going up as you go through the spins. They can push the maximum payout up to 10,000x the original straight-up bet, and that’s the game’s max win cap.

Super Booster

The Super Booster feature can randomly apply a multiplier of up to 10x to the total win after a successful spin. This enhancement can increase payouts even further, adding another layer of unpredictability and excitement to the game.

Gates of Olympus Roulette is fully optimized for mobile play, allowing players to join the table from smartphones and tablets without losing any functionality. Theme, Visuals & Sound

The visual design is taken from the slot’s theme, which is heavily inspired by ancient Greek mythology. Zeus takes center stage as the powerful host overseeing the action on the slot reels. Golden lightning effects, marble columns, and dramatic lighting reinforce the connection to the world of Gates of Olympus.

But before you get to that part, you go through the roulette part of the game. In the base game, you only see a close-up of the wheel and the host, dressed in a toga. Obviously, it’s all Greece-themed, and the location is Mount Olympus. The quality of the production is amazing, but that is expected from a studio such as Pragmatic Play.

Our Experience Playing Gates of Olympus Roulette

From what I’ve seen, Gates of Olympus Roulette is a lot. It’s a live roulette, yes, but also so much more. And if I did not know that Playtech’s Age of the Gods Bonus Roulette exists, I would be  fascinated by this mixture. But alas, I know that this is not revolutionary, but props to Pragmatic Play for thinking of connecting roulette with this famous slot. Gates of Olympus is a very popular game, and to be honest, the final product does both games justice.
