Chillipop Slots

When we come across a weird slot, we usually entertain ourselves by imagining what circumstances led to its creation. We cannot help but wonder who got the team at Betsoft together, sat them down and pitched whacky vegetables for a game idea. Regardless of our opinions, that is what we will be reviewing today. Lots and lots of Mexican peppers. Oh, joy. Chillipop takes all the spicy ingredients needed for a good bowl of chilli and plants them firmly on the playing field. The titleis played on a 5x3 board with cluster wins instead of regular paylines. Special features include free spins, expanding reels, cascading reels and Wild Pinata Multiplier. The food, music and party games are ready to go – are you, dear reader?

How to Play

The slot is so unapologetically Mexican it borders the stereotypical. You see the familiar Rockies in the distance and a colourful Mexican town beneath them. The vast majority of visible space is taken up by the playing field and the symbols. Sadly, the icons failed to impress us, as did the absence of any fun animations. You play this game on a 5x3 playing field. Wins are granted when three or more identical symbols are adjacent to each other, regardless of position. The more icons are part of a cluster, the bigger its prize. But, if you want to boost your wins some more, make use of Wild Multiplier or the expanding reels mechanic!

Betting Options and Payout

Players can set their wagers between $0.50 up to $50 per spin, which is not a good betting spread. $0.50 is too high for casual gamblers, while $50 will feel restrictive to some high rollers. The title has medium volatility, with an RTP of 95.38%. This is beneath the current industry average of 96%, so we would not recommend playing Chillipop. The maximum win is worth 103,363 coins.

Symbols and Extra Features

We understand Betsoft wanted to make symbols look whacky and silly, but they just look plain weird. Just look at those hollow eyes and tell us you want to be left in a dark room alone with them. So while we like the general idea, we loathe the execution a lot more. Piñata Wild is especially guilty of the crazy-eyes argument. The only semi-sane icon seems to be Donkey Scatter. Unfortunately, we do not see as much of him as we would like. When Wild completes a winning combination, it adds a multiplier to the cluster’s win. If it helps create multiple winning clusters, the multiplier increases several times. Three or more mules will trigger free spins. Depending on the number of Scatters, between 5 and 26 bonus turns will be played. During the special feature itself, any collected mules add to the counter. Once this counter reaches a certain point, it increases the playing field. The maximum size it can grow to is a massive 8x8 board. Each time a cluster win is formed, it explodes making room for new icons. Existing symbols fall in place of the disappearing icons, while brand new symbols land from the top of the reels.

Our Verdict

Visually, Chillipop is a mess that needs a whole lot less crazy eyes. The gameplay is quite promising, especially with so many special features being available! If the graphics are ever sorted, we can bump up the score accordingly. As it stands, this is where we leave it.
