Ancient Gods Slots

Mythology makes for good slot themes. It’s something a lot of people recognize – and even if they don’t, we’ve seen plenty of fantasy movies, novels and artwork that our mind just casually accepts and moves on. We’ll admit, were fans of the style. It delivers a constant, quality stream, and it certainly seems to work out a lot better than some other themes do – experiments can be great, but they can equally flop and titles that use fantasy or mythological themes are usually safe bets to fall back upon. This time around, the RTG slot draws on Chinese mythology, calling forward the pantheon of immortal beasts, set with the task of guarding heaven itself. Do you dare face off against the guardians of the holy in an attempt to claim the riches and fortune of heaven for yourself? If so, then RTG’s release, titled Ancient Gods, summons you to prove your worth.

How to Play

This isn’t the most spectacular title that the developer put out. The backdrop image is certainly breath-taking, depicting a mountainous region through which a river passes, falling off the cliff side and forming a massive waterfall that would undoubtedly be a sight to behold. The sky behind the reels is also twisted in a rather odd fashion, no doubt signifying something is happening and we even see a shooting star zooming past the sky. We certainly don’t expect every element to be animation but one or two could have gone a long way to make things look cooler. As it stands right now, Ancient Gods looks worse off than its competitors, which is never a good thing. The user interface is rather clean and easy to use – it’s the older RTG UI, but it still looks sleek and gets the job done. You play the game on a 5x3 playing field with 25 flexible paylines that pay left to right – meaning gamblers are able to turn them on and off to decrease their cost of playing, while also decreasing their own chances of winning. Ancient Gods is a medium variance title, meaning players get a balanced mix of special feature triggers, boring segments with small or non-existent wins, and a period of solid scores to make up for it. While the prizes won’t be as big as high volatility titles, they’re still pretty good.

Betting Options and Payout

You can bet between $0.01 up to $125 per spin by increasing or decreasing the bet level and the number of active paylines. The wide range allows both casual gamblers and high rollers alike to enjoy this title, giving them plenty to look forward to. Though we personally would not recommend turning off any of the paylines, as it lowers your chances of winning. The RTP for Ancient Gods is 96%, which is above average for video slots.

Symbols and Extra Features

Symbols include icons such as turtle shells, tiger stripes, bird feathers as well as three differently coloured animal scales. These symbols are part of the four animal protectors of heaven, which are the turtle, the tiger, the phoenix and the dragon. A yellow centre dragon acts as Wild, while a green-golden medallion is Scatter. When Wild or Scatter lands somewhere on the playing field, they have a chance of creating two additional Wilds, which will appear on the other two positions on that reel. Collecting three or more Scatters rewards players with free spins – two of them are awarded for every Scatter or Wild present on the reels when the feature is triggered. When Wild or Scatter lands a chance to create additional Wilds is guaranteed. Prizes are doubled if four Scatters trigger the bonus or tripled if five Scatters activate it.

We enjoyed Ancient Gods overall. The visuals could use an upgrade, but that’s true for a lot of RTG titles. The gameplay is solid, and the feature can be a lot of fun if you manage to hit it. A solid, slightly average entry.
