Age of the Gods Mighty Midas Slots
Mythology and slots have been a partnership that has existed since the earliest days. It did not take long for gods, vampires, monsters and devils to flood physical machines, and eventually make their way online. Something many developers used – including Playtech. Age of the Gods: Mighty Midas is another entry into the progressive jackpot series. This one tells the tale of King Midas and his insatiable hunger for gold. The title is played on a 5x3 board with 40 fixed paylines. Special features include Wild transformations, Wild multipliers, and five types of free spins.
How to PlayAdmittedly, Playtech was never one to bring us gorgeous animations. Their visual style was always a simpler affair, focusing on symbols and the background image. We do hope they improve on this, but the available graphics with Mighty Midas were serviceable. It even shows potential with minor things, like the golden touch transforming symbols into Wilds. The slot is played on a 5x3 playing field. Wins are granted for connecting three or more identical symbols from left to right in adjacent positions. All wins must follow one of 40 active paylines, otherwise the combination will not reward any money.
Betting Options and PayoutPlayers can set their wagers between $0.40 up to $2,000 per spin, which is a fantastic betting spread for everyone. We were unable to find any official information about this title’s volatility. The RTP sits between 95.35% and 96.34%, just below the current industry average.
Symbols and Extra FeaturesSymbols are split into two tiers. Lower paying icons are grapes, cups, apples, roses and turkeys. Higher paying symbols are various Greek deities, who are represented by their corresponding lower paying icons. A golden hand pointing left creates Wilds, while multi-coloured triangles form Scatter. When Midas’ golden hand appears on the third, fourth or fifth reel, it transforms the icon it points towards into golden Wild. The hand then disappears, allowing an existing symbol to fall on top and take its place. It is important to note that the slot does not have cascading reels – that property is unique to the hand. If the hand points to existing Wild, that Wild receives a 2x multiplier. That multiplier can go up to 3x following the same pattern. Scatter on the first and fifth reel grants a gem feature. The bonuses you can win are: • Emerald Bonus: Scatter on the reel one reveals a cash prize, while the one of the fifth reel shows a multiplier. The multiplier is applied to the cash prize and the total win is deposited. • Ruby Spins: A large, multiplier tower is formed next to the reels. When golden Wild is created, it automatically becomes multiplier Wild that is at the bottom of the tower. • Amber Spins: One symbol is randomly chosen to be golden Wild. • Sapphire Spins: This adds a certain number of Wilds to each reel. This increases the chance Wild will appear while free spins are active. • Amethyst Spins: All Midas Touch symbols are double stacked for the duration of the bonus. Finally, at any random point in time, the progressive jackpot game can be won. This special feature is shared among all Age of the Gods titles and should be immediately familiar.
Our VerdictWhile we do wish they did a little more visually, the gameplay blew us away. The sheer variety of available bonuses was fantastic, up to the point where you might feel a little overwhelmed. Quite a solid showing from Playtech that show Age of the Gods still has juice left in it. We hope to see a lot more in the future!
