Leading regulatory body in Europe, the UK Gambling Commission has been very active in the past couple of weeks.
A few days ago, the UKGC spoke up about the official alterations in the new business plan regarding VIP programs. According to the report, persons under the age of 25 will no longer be able to apply for loyalty schemes. Moreover, additional prospects will change. For instance, the minimum speed for all slots will be at least 2.5 seconds. The plan will come into force in September this year.
Reinforcing its rigid authority, the UKGC has now suspended two licenses. The two brands having heir permits taken are Dynamic and Sportito. It is worth noting that Dynamic trades as Prophet.
No Tolerance for Breaking the Rules
Back in January, the Commission notified the two brands that the participation in Gamstop was a prerequisite. Due to their failure to comply, the regulator reserved the rights to rid them of their permits.
In the case of Sportito, however, the review is still going on. Namely, Sportito had now integrated the Gamstop scheme. Thus, the Commission has lifted the suspension.
Neil McArthur, Gambling Commission chief executive, was clear about the Commission’s intentions. “We have made it clear to operators that we are ready and willing to use our powers to protect consumers.” McArthur emphasized that that action demonstrated those plans.
“Self-exclusion is an important tool to protect vulnerable consumers.”
That’s why the UKGC made it obligatory for all licensees to be signed up to GAMSTOP by 31 March.
The Commission is concerned that the current quarantine might affect the increase in problem gambling. That’s why it needs to be as strict as ever.
“We took action because the operators had not complied by the deadline, which placed vulnerable consumers at risk.”
