Microgaming and Square Enix have been partners for a decade and a half, and to mark this important occasion, the two sides have extended their agreement.
Under the provisions of the new deal, the Isle of Man-headquartered developer will produce a third online slot game featuring Lara Croft.
The Successful Partnership Continues
It should be noted that this partnership has been one of the longest-running relationships in the industry, which began back in 2004 when Microgaming released Lara Croft: Tomb Raider video slot – the very first branded slot in the online gaming industry!
The game quickly became extremely popular, which led to the sequel titled Tomb Raider: Secret of the Sword, which hit the market four years later, sending players on an exciting quest to find the pieces of a legendary sword.
According to available information, the new game featuring the famous heroine will be launched this year, bringing a brand-new adventure filled with opportunities to grab rewarding prizes. The new game will be developed by Triple Edge Studios, an independent game studio that has been providing quality content for Microgaming.
The Game Debuts in February
Commenting on this announcement, Andrew Clucas, Chief Operating Officer at Microgaming, said his company was incredibly excited to announce the renewal of the historic partnership with Square Enix to develop a new Lara Croft online slot game that honoured and built on the brand’s massive popularity in the gaming industry, film and beyond.
Clucas also stated that 2019 market the 15th anniversary with the brand and added Microgaming planned to celebrate the unprecedented milestone with a wave of big reveals on another show-stopping stand at ICE.
Janet Swallow, Vice President of Licensing at Square Enix West, added the company was looking forward to continuing working with Microgaming to develop another successful branded online slot game, following the top performances of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2004, and Tomb Raider: Secret of the Sword in 2008.
Swallow also said out that everyone at Square Enix was excited to see a new action-packed Lara Croft adventure launch to the online gaming world and added they were looking forward to the big reveal at ICE.
The latest video slot featuring Lara Croft will make its debut at this year's ICE Totally Gaming, scheduled to be held from February 5-7 in London.
