On Monday we brought you news of new regulations being implemented for Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBTs) in betting shops all over the UK. Today two of the largest suppliers of gaming machines in the UK, Inspired Gaming and SG Gaming, are also offering their full support to the new regulations issued by the Association of British Bookmaker's (ABB).
Under the new proposals customers will be able to set their own limits of how long they wish to play for and how much they wish to spend, with alerts also triggering automatically after players have spent £250 or played for 30 minutes. Luke Alvarez is the Chief Executive Officer at Inspired Gaming and he sees the new proposals as a “positive step”. He said, “We do not want problem gamblers playing on any of our machines and the new measures are a positive first step in our long-term development roadmap to better protect problem gamblers in the UK and to minimise the risks to all gamblers.”
Steve Frater is the Chairman at SG Gaming and he echoed the comments made by his counterpart at Inspired Gaming as he said, “We are committed to providing a fun leisure experience for those who enjoy playing on machines, whilst developing new ways to protect those who are at risk of harm.”
It is only a small minority of people who have a problem with gambling whether it be in a bookmakers on the local high street or a casino online, but any steps that are taken to help these people has to be seen in a positive light even if it causes an inconvenience to others.
