Craps 101

Are you ready to learn the craps rules? Get ready because there is a possibility that some rules might confuse you for a bit. But there is no reason to worry because we will try to explain it in the simplest way possible.

So, the rounds start with the come-out rolls. The shooter rolls the dice first. In online craps, there is no throwing dice – you only click the Play button. Three possible outcomes of the first roll exist – a natural, craps, or point.

When the shooter scores 7 or 11 in the first dice throw, he’s a natural. This is an instant win, and the shooter gets to play again.

On the other hand, craps refer to the outcome of 2, 3, or 12. This is an instant loss.

Finally, should the result be any other number except those that we mentioned for natural and craps, it becomes a point. For instance, if the outcome is a 4, the shooter throws the dice again in hopes of landing a 4 again. Simply put, he is now chasing his point. To win, the player must throw a 4 before throwing a 7. If he gets a 7, he loses.

Before each roll, players can place bets. But the question is, where to place the chips?

Let’s see the areas on the board, i.e. the possible bets that you can wager on.

The Table Layout

One of the most common bets in craps is the Pass/Don’t Pass Line.

The bet has its designated area where players place chips when they want to wager on the shooter’s come out roll. This Pass/Don’t Pass Line essentially refers to two betting options: either you bet that the shooter will win, or you bet that he’ll lose.

After the first (come out) roll, players cannot bet on the Pass/Don’t Pass Lines anymore. Instead, they can bet on the Come/ Don’t Come bets.

Essentially, these are just like the Pass/Don’t Pass bets, except they refer only to the rolls after the first one. You will also see the Field, which is an area where you can bet on other numbers during the roll.  The middle of the table displays a row of bets that are known as the Proposition Bets.

Craps tables typically display also the Big 6 and Big 8 bets, as well as empty spaces where you can place Odds Bets. This type of bet is free to bet, it has zero house edge, and is quite fun.

However, most tables do not mark the spot for Odds bets, so you just place the chips behind your chips on the Pass line.

Online and Live Craps

Craps has been at the center of attention for land-based casinos for years. Perhaps the most significant contribution to the popularity of craps comes from gambling halls in the Las Vegas strip.

But, over the years, we have seen a transformation of craps games. They are no longer restricted to brick-and-mortar venues. If you want to enjoy world-class craps playtime, you can do it in the comfort of your home as well!

There are several options when it comes to virtual craps. There are online craps – played with RNG machines – and live craps. Online craps are grand if you are an amateur that is just starting.

However, if you already possess experience, playing live craps might be a perfect thing for you.

Live craps include a real dealer that hosts the game. The action happens in real-time, which is excellent if you are in pursuit of the authentic craps experience. Before you run off to a premium craps casino to play, have a look at our top tips for playing craps online!

Tips for Mastering Craps

Craps is a great game, but there are so many details to remember before you start a round. That is why we offer you some tips and tricks that you can use to advance in the game faster.

  • Start small. If you are new to craps, we recommend starting slow. Don’t place massive bets and stick to the proven bets like Pass and Come bets.
  • Avoid complex bets. Beginners should not complicate things with bets that they do not understand fully. Hence, it is best to avoid them until you gain enough knowledge about each particular betting option.
  • Practice and practice some more. Practice makes perfect, so if you want to become better at playing craps, you should practice. The best way to do that is to play craps for free. You can find free play craps in almost any major online casino that has this game type in the lobby.

And finally, our best tip is to relax and enjoy the game. If it stops being fun, stay responsible and take a break from playing.
