The design is sleeker than the original release, but Rival seems to be lacking in the variation department. While some designs are certainly different and fun to look at, such as the rainbow-ringed planet, they simply fail to intrigue the player like they did in the previous slot. A bit of a missed opportunity for the theme, but nothing that couldn’t be recovered.

Gameplay wise, Mystery Planets doesn’t vary things up too much. The developers placed their focus on five of a kind wins and special features, which can leave smaller wins feeling a bit boring in comparison. That said, the option to be able to pilot your own space ship around instead of leaving it up to luck is a big plus.

Rival is somewhat infamous to some players for being ‘cheap’ on their games. While this is not true for all releases, some of them, like Mystery Planets, certainly prove it true. That said, most symbols have great pays at five of a kind wins, but those are as rare as you would expect.
