Intralot SA, a gaming and transaction processing systems provider, has recently won a deal with Scientific Games Corporation, an American lottery technology provider, to create a system for retail and online operations for German sports betting monopoly ODS Oddset Deutschland Sportwetten GmbH. With Intralot, Oddset will have their own Betting Platform that will support their retail and interactive businesses along with risk management and operational services.
Oddset has been established by the German government to modernize and develop their already existing sports betting operations. These operations will now be operated by the government through Deutsche Lotto und Toto Block national retail, which has over 23,000 points of sale. They’re aiming to become the leader in the German betting market that is why they want to apply as one of the national sports betting concessions set that will be made available with a seven-year term.
CEO for Intralot Constatinos Antonopoulos has expressed their enthusiasm in the project and in working with Scientific Games. Together they could create an opportunity in the German market, which is one of the most important European and worldwide markets.
Challenges in the newly regulated German sports betting market will be addressed through the cooperation of Scientific Games, Intralot and the German state lottery. Scientific Games has the experience and the knowledge in providing lottery technology while Intralot has their own extensive knowledge on sports betting operations. These two companies along with the state lotteries, which already have a powerful market position, will create a powerful sports betting system for the nation.
Their common objective is to establish “a modern, attractive and competitive product portfolio in the German market”. They will accomplish this through Oddset, which they also aimed to become the market leader in sports betting in the Federal Republic of Germany. Intralot, along with Scientific Games, supports this common objective and they will be helping Oddset to become the first regulated sports betting operator in Germany. This is expected to take place before the year ends.
